Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten.
- George Orwell

Compiling my list of Banned books even some of the most heavily sanctioned were relatively easy to find.
You'll be sentenced to 10 years in the UK for having a mere PDF of "The White Resistance Manual", but actually finding it is not a challenge. ITS RIGHT THERE. One Google search away and you too can be serving 8-12 in an overcrowded prison.
Indeed it’s somewhat horrifying how accessible this seemingly most dangerous of dangerous works is: it turns up first page google search.
.
However, one work is impossible to find. Indeed it took me a half hour of searching to find out it was even real. And then it was only after the list was finally out and I had some breathing room I realized how completely disappeared it really was.
Chilean Dictator Augusto Pinochet's 4 volume memoir "A Journey Through a Life: Memoirs of a Soldier", better known by its Spanish title "Camino Recorrido" is entirely disappeared even from online dark libraries.
This WAS a real work, Translated into English by Mabel Nettle de Couyoumdjian, and having found JPEGs of it, these were bound editions, this wasn't some hastily typed academic Aid, but a genuine project.
And yet these works are not to be found anywhere.
THIS WAS A HEAD OF STATE!
More than that, this was maybe the most controversial head of state in the Americas.
look up "Pinochet memoirs" on Google and you will find works by communists like "Pinochet and Me: A Chilean Memoir", "Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter", "I Surrender: A Memoir of Chile's Dictatorship, 1975" “At the Edge of the World: Memories of a Judge Who Indicted Pinochet” and "Memoirs of a cyclist who disappeared during the Pinochet Era"
There’s an entire book “Pinochet in Piccadilly” just whinging about Thatcher’s friendliness with Pinochet.
...But the works actually written by the Political Science Professor and Dictator all these communists are wringing their hands about? Disappeared.
Completely cleansed.
Any bookstore owner or librarian can tell you stories about communists coming to their store or collection and demanding works be removed because of X Y or Z... Most universities no longer carry any works of David Irving, once the most prominent historian of the past 100 years. And I've heard from bookstore owners the Entire genre of Westerns is now under attack (for being racist against natives) and an increasingly large swath of Bookstores now don't carry them for the hassle these dysgenic freaks and caricatures straight from an Ayn Rand novel will give them.
These mutants have been known to actively attack stores and collections that stock works they despise, or purposefully steal or destroy said works... And this is when they do not become the librarians themselves.
So you can imagine the works by the one man who did the most to fight the communist scourge in the past 50 years. Saving a nation of 10 million from the fates of Cuba, Ukraine, and Cambodia... they went as far as they could to expunge his works.
I searched the library systems of London UK, New York City, and Toronto...nothing.
Likewise, Harvard, NYU, the University of Toronto, and Cambridge do not have the work. JSTOR does not have it.
The only collections I've found that have the English translation of at least the first volume (2-4 who knows)
Are the University of Texas and UPenn.
This work does not Exist on Archive.org... Various pirate sites and black libraries do not hold it.
The works of one of the most influential and memed world leaders with hundreds if not thousands of works written in English about him, Chile in the period, and general communist handwringing about his “Tyrrany” which killed maybe 3-4000 out of a nation of 10 million (compared to communist dictators who regularly killed 5-10% of the population.
And some of the most prominent people praising the man don't know these works exist.
If you have copies of the English work or know where they can be found... get them scanned and online.
you'd open the floodgate of rightwing interest in the man and the period.
.
Without being able to read Pinochet’s own words the online right already sees him as something of a model for their dreams for America… These might be the banned books with the most unknown pent-up demand in the world.
But much more than that: these works are history. People wring their hands and gnash their teeth that Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto need to be available so people can know the history and truly grasp the ideologies that shaped and destroyed the 20th century… Yet out of favour dictators and once US allies from living memory, suddenly people get people get very nervous about. Hitler’s work from the 1920s is safe, it’s literally a century old now. Works like Pinochet’s memoirs, or Muammar Gaddafi’s “My Vision” or Saddam Hussein’s “On Democracy”…. Those are from living memory.
The people and ideas they attack are the ones still governing us, and the receipts they bring are still fresh.
No wonder they don’t want you reading those books.

I didn’t realise how much I want these books until I realised how much “they” don’t want us to have them. Now I really really want them.
My girlfriend just found volume 2 in paperback for sale online, from a seller in France. She bought it 😏
We’ll see if we actually get it!
