I think I can steelman the opposite side.

In extreme sports the jumpers who survive are not the ones who are unafraid. Not the ones 100% psychopathically confident in their motorcycles. It's the ones friendly with their fear. The ones who say "oh I got the fear shits give me a second I'll be back and then we'll go."

The appeal of certainty is the certainty, but it's a fantasy. You aren't 100% certain your breaks will work, and the only way you can be certain of that is if you lie to yourself.

Mostly the reason people don't act is the same reason they close their eyes and run towards the problem flailing their arms. They don't know how to be afraid. They're playing roles, not being in their body in the situation facing them.

Your choices are not between not acting and forming a militia in Syria. That's a lie your brain made up because you are afraid.

Does anyone sincerely believe in Odin or Valhalla or is it just a cool aesthetic? Have there been any neo-pagans willing to take risks for their beliefs? Because it just looks like nihilism with extra steps.
